Some of Paisley's famous sons
Saint Mirin, who founded the Celtic church around which Paisley Abbey grew up.

The Reverend John Witherspoon who became principal of Princeton University and was one of the signatories of the American Declaration of Independence.

William Brown and John Polson who became famous world-wide for their Brown & Polson Patent Corn Flour.

James Coats (1774-1857), originally a 'cork' manufacturer in the tambouring trade, formed a partnership with James Whyte to produce 'Canton Crepe'.

His sons, James and Peter, founded the firm of J & P Coats. Soon afterwards their brother, Thomas, joined the thread making and textile weaving company where they perfected the ‘Paisley Pattern’.
